Sleeping Beauty at the Loft Cinema
The Loft Cinema will be screening Walt Disney’s 1959 animated classic, Sleeping Beauty, in 70mm, at noon, October 15, and at 2:30 p.m. October 16. This is a very rare opportunity to see Sleeping Beauty projected in 70mm, so don’t miss out, as it very likely will not happen again!
Based on the fairy tales The Sleeping Beauty by Charles Perrault and Little Briar Rose by The Brothers Grimm, Walt Disney’s animated classic Sleeping Beauty combines romance, adventure and one of animation’s most spectacular villains into an unforgettable cinematic experience. Filled with jealousy, the flamboyantly evil witch Maleficent curses the beautiful Princess Aurora to die on her 16th birthday. Thanks to Aurora’s guardian fairies, Flora, Fauna and Merriweather, she only falls into a deep sleep that can be ended with a kiss from her true love, Prince Philip.
Featuring gorgeous animation, breathtaking color and an Oscar-nominated score blending themes from Tchaikovsy’s ballet, Sleeping Beauty was Walt Disney’s most lavish and expensive feature to date. It was also the studio’s first ever 70mm feature, and the first animated film to be photographed in the Super Technirama 70 widescreen process.
