Super volunteer Matt Steiner, who donates his time to Habitat for Humanity Tucson HabiStore every week, sometimes five days a week, has put in 500 volunteer hours and counting, since February 2017. He does his daily tasks of mopping, washing and folding aprons, and cleaning the carpets at the HabiStore with care. Then he looks at other areas of the HabiStore to see what else could benefit from his imagination.

So far, he has organized the safety equipment area in the back of the store and designed a task list for volunteers. He has also embraced Habitat’s focus on conservation and building green and has researched and introduced new environmentally-friendly cleaning products and practices to the store. His spirit, imagination and dedication are inspiring.

The HabiStore is a home improvement store and donation center primarily run by volunteers. Proceeds from the store help build and renovate homes with families in need of affordable housing in Southern Arizona. The HabiStore—Habitat’s retail outlet for used furniture, appliances and supplies—keeps 250 tons of materials out of landfills each year.
