The Art of Becoming: Reconnecting with Your Dreams
Dec 31, 2024 12:00PM ● By Deb BerosetJanuary often brings with it a rush of resolutions and self-improvement goals. We tell ourselves this is the year we’ll eat better, exercise more, or finally tackle that nagging to-do list. But too often, these resolutions fizzle out before February. Why? Because they’re rooted in the idea that we need to “fix” ourselves rather than exploring what we truly desire.
What if, instead of striving to become someone different, you began the year by reconnecting with your dreams? What if you opened doors that you’d closed long ago—doors to aspirations and possibilities you might have dismissed as “off-limits”?
For many of us, these dreams get buried beneath the weight of limiting beliefs: “I’m too old.” “I don’t have the time or talent.” “That’s just not realistic for me.” Over time, these beliefs form invisible walls, keeping us from even considering what could be. But those dreams don’t disappear. They linger quietly, waiting for us to give them permission to come alive.
One of the most powerful steps in reclaiming your dreams is identifying and challenging the beliefs that hold you back. These beliefs often masquerade as truth, but they’re usually just stories we’ve internalized over time.
Start by noticing the thoughts that arise when you consider pursuing something that excites you. Do you hear a voice saying, “You can’t do that” or “You’ll fail”? Instead of accepting these thoughts as fact, ask yourself: “Is this really true?” “What evidence do I have that contradicts this belief?”
Releasing these stories creates space for new possibilities. It allows you to dream bigger and step into a version of yourself that feels expansive and free.
Reconnecting with your dreams isn’t just about envisioning a brighter future; it’s also about nurturing your spirit in the present. Dreams thrive in an environment of self-compassion and care. This means making time to connect with what brings you joy and inspires you.
Consider incorporating rituals that help you stay connected to your inner self. This could be journaling about your aspirations, meditating on what lights you up, or surrounding yourself with beauty and creativity. These practices ground you and remind you that your dreams are worth tending.
You don’t need to have a perfectly clear vision to begin stepping into your potential. What you need is a commitment—a willingness to embrace personal evolution and expansion. Growth doesn’t happen all at once; it happens in the small, courageous steps you take toward something greater.
When you show up for yourself in this way, you’ll find that opportunities and possibilities begin to unfold naturally. What felt impossible or “off-limits” starts to come into view, simply because you dared to say yes to the process.
Self-actualization is not a solo sport. While personal growth may feel deeply individual, it’s profoundly influenced by the relationships and connections we cultivate. Spending time with people who are similarly growth-oriented can spark ideas, provide encouragement, and reflect back to us our own strengths and brilliance. This is why communities like Moxie exist—to create a space where women can ignite their potential, cheer each other on, and find the exponential power of shared growth.
When we surround ourselves with those who are also committed to personal evolution, we’re reminded that we don’t need a perfectly clear vision to begin. All it takes is a willingness to step into the unknown and trust that clarity will emerge through the process.
