Trigger Point Therapy for Referred Pain
Ever had trouble pinpointing the exact spot pain is coming from? Sometimes, we can touch or rub a location that hurts, only to find it’s the wrong spot. It’s like the brain and body are getting different signals. This is what referred pain feels like.
Trigger points are sensitive areas in the muscle or connective tissue. They refer pain locally or to other areas of the body. It is helpful to know that 75 percent of trigger points cause referred pain away from the actual source. We are intuitively correct when we further investigate the source of pain. Trigger points can go away on their own, or stick around indefinitely, until treated.
Trigger point therapy can connect the dots. Trigger points are deactivated by applying pressure to the compromised area. After pressure is applied and the trigger point dissolves, active and passive stretching can be used to restore the muscle to its normal resting length, thus resulting in optimal function.
Trigger point therapy is a natural alternative to over-the-counter and prescription pain medication, invasive procedures and even surgeries, effective in lessening and eliminating pain. Clients report freedom of movement and lessened pain that typically doubles in duration with each session.
