Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Enhances Healing

Inside the Hyperbaric Chamber

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a medical treatment that has been used since the 1600s. The chamber creates a pressurized environment, which allows oxygen to saturate the blood plasma. Several studies have demonstrated that hyperbaric oxygen therapy will improve the body’s ability to repair and regenerate by increasing oxygen levels to all organs of the body. It is used as an adjunct therapy to complement and enhance the healing process in both chronic and acute conditions.

Benefits
Mild hyperbarics can increase oxygen levels in the body and benefit people of all ages, from children to elderly. According to a 2012 study titled “Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and Cancer – A Review”, by increasing tissue oxygenation, optimal cellular function may be achieved. More oxygen creates more energy for accelerated repair and enhanced regeneration of tissue. Hypoxic tissue (low oxygen levels) can lead to cell death and is a common theme in most major health conditions, such as cancer, stroke, heart attack and diabetes. By increasing oxygen levels, the body has increased aid to prevent and treat pathological events.

Studies have shown hyperbaric oxygen therapy to be effective in the treatment of: aging-related conditions, ADD/ADHD, autism, Alzheimer’s, dementia, arthritis, allergies, mold illness, cerebral palsy, diabetes, diabetic ulcers, fibromyalgia, heart disease, Lyme disease, migraines, multiple sclerosis, pre/post reconstruction and plastic surgery, cancer radiation damage, wound healing, stroke, sports injuries, inflammation and pain.

How it Works
The Vitaeris Hyperbaric chamber by OxyHEALTH is a 32” diameter chamber, with
sufficient interior room for a child and an adult. The operating pressure is 1.3 ATA (4 psi) and there are three patient viewing windows which illuminate the interior with room light. The spacious design also counters patient claustrophobia during treatment.

A typical treatment lasts between one hour and 75 minutes. Once the treatment begins, the technician guides the patient through the pressurization process. This can take up to 10 minutes and feels like landing in an airplane, as ears adjust to the changing pressure. After reaching full pressure, clients are free to browse their phone, read a book or take a nap. The patient may lie down and may breathe 90-95 percent concentrated oxygen. Once the treatment time has ended, the technician will slowly begin depressurizing the chamber, which may take up to another 10 minutes.

The number of treatments may vary depending on the condition. Acute conditions may require 10 treatments, and 40 treatments are recommended for chronic conditions. Experiences vary after just a single treatment, but many people feel rested and even energized. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a cumulative and momentum therapy, so receiving more treatments as close as possible will yield the best results.
