On the Cover: “Heart dreams II” by Janny Taylor

Janny Taylor

Born into a nomadic childhood, Janny Taylor moved every three years, driven by her mom’s obsession with finding the perfect color schemes and floor plans. While she initially resisted this transient life, Taylor eventually embraced it as an opportunity to reimagine her world with each new space. Her memories are color-coded and neatly filed by house number, like a visual map of everything that’s shaped her.
That colorful, ever-changing childhood led Taylor to study art at Parsons School of Design and the Art Students League in New York City. Her work has been shown at the Museum of Modern Art and the National Catholic Museum and featured in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and O, The Oprah Magazine. She is also the author and illustrator of the best-selling book, Our Lady of Weight Loss: Miraculous and Motivational Musings from the Patron Saint of Permanent Fat Removal.
This month’s cover image, Heart Dreams, is an 8"x8" encaustic collage of paper, molten wax, oil paint, and pigment sticks on wood. The heart has always been a powerful symbol for Taylor—representing love, vulnerability and connection. A symbol of shared humanity, Heart Dreams captures that connection perfectly.
In February, Taylor’s work will be exhibited at Steinfeld Gallery & Studios, Raíces Taller 222, Roche Ventana Gallery, Rancho Linda Vista Gallery, and FEAST.
